final WEEK (sept. 25- oct. 2, 2019)

final teaching in

sma lab school unsyiah

The topic that has been assigned to me during my final teaching is "Virus". The class that has been assigned to me was the Grade X IPA2. During my final teaching, there had been a power shortage and it lasted for an hour. But ofcourse as a teacher,we have to be very versatile when this kind of problem arises. So whatever happens, the show must go on! Thank God, I was able to pull it off. Indeed God is good!

last time to attend flag ceremony in sma lab school

It was our final week so it was also our last time to attend the flag ceremony in SMA Lab school. This moment was very emotional for me realizing that I won't be able to attend this kind of ceremony anymore the following week. Hearing Indonesia Raya, the Indonesia's National Anthem, gives me goosebumps. I can really feel the song and it feels like every line gives so much emotion. Indonesia is now my second home, specifically Aceh, so it's really hard for me knowing that I only have few days left to spend with the people who in time, became my family.

go! fight! win!

sma lab school basketball team!

The Basketball team of SMA Lab school joined the DBL (Division of Basketball League). A student from Social class invited us to watch the game and even gave us free tickets so we went there straight from school. All of the students of lab school were all there and we really felt the sense of unity and camaraderie among them. It melts my heart seeing all of my students united as one. In the end, the opponent won but I can say that the players from Lab school really gave a good game.

trying out new coffee shops

During our final week, we spent almost all of our remaining nights trying out different coffee shops since Aceh is very famous for its delicious coffee. We tried several coffee shops with our buddies and sometimes even with our students.

selamat ulang tahun, rizki!

One of our students celebrated his 16th birthday and we decided to surprise him since he is really one of the sweetest and most diligent among all of our students in Lab School. We bought a simple cake for his birthday and surprised him inside their class during lunch break.

He looked so happy and at the same time shocked during that time. I hope that Allah would bless him a hundredfold because he really is a good kid. Keep it up, anak! Nanay Cha is so proud of you.

experienced teaching college students in unsyiah

It was another milestone for us when we get to experience teaching college students in Syiah Kuala University. We have been assigned to teach Prof. Ed. subjects to them. Because of this experience, we came to realize that teaching high school/senior high school students is way different from teaching college students. We were able to compare and contrast the behaviour of students in secondary level and in tertiary level and as well as how they respond.

pizza date with dr. andi and tried the famous coffee in kopi khop

After successfully teaching and sharing our knowledge to the college students, Dr. Andi, my supervisor, invited us to have some dinner. She took us out to have some pizza. Being with her feels so heartwarming and uplifting because she's very successful yet she's very humble and always willing to lend a hand to those people in need. She's the real epitome of beauty and brain.

get to taste the famous mie aceh and get to visit KAK nurul's house, one of our buddies

Finally, we get to taste the famous Mie Aceh!!"Mie aceh or mi aceh"is an Acehnese curried spicy noodle dish. It is a specialty of Acehnese people from Aceh region in Indonesia. It's very tasty and it has its own distinct taste unlike the usual noodles.

Also, it was a special day for us since Kak Nurul, one of our buddies invited us to their house and meet her family. It was a very welcome. They offered us acehnese cookies and tea and also, Nasi Goreng Kampung, our favorite dish in Aceh.

leche flan making

In our whole stay in Aceh, we have met a lot of people along the way and all of them have played a vital role in making our journey complete. And to extend our warmest gratitude to them, we decided to cook Leche Flan and give it to them. Leche Flan is a Filipino dessert made from eggs, evaporated and condensed milk, vanilla, and caramelized sugar.

And since we don't have enough cooking stuffs, Pak Wandi, as the kind man he is, invited us to his house. There we cooked the Leche Flan and we met his family. We were pleased to meet his loving wife and his two little kids.

We went out with some of our students and ate at the Hanna Canteen ( inside the campus of UNSYIAH, walking distance from the UNSYIAH Laboratory High School). We tried the takoyaki which is one of their specialties.

discovering the beauty of aceh

It was our last day in Banda Aceh so we went to some of the beautiful places there with Pak Wandi and Bang Alul. It was a fine day. We started hitting the road at around 6:30am. It was quite a long drive as we've spent almost 2 hours on the road, but it was all worth it.

Upon our arrival to our destination, my eyes were captured by the beauty of Loong falls. The water was so cold and there are a lot of different varieties of plants and trees surrounding the area which created a relaxing vibe. Nature trips has always been very therapeutic for me so I really enjoyed our stay there.

After that, we went to another beautiful destination in Aceh which is the so-called Puncak Gerote beach. We stayed in a small cottage along the road overlooking the majestic view of the place. While having a sip of our fresh coconut water, some monkeys went to us. It was another unforgettable experience for me because that was the very first time that I have had an encounter with monkeys upclose. I am so grateful that I get to interact with those tiny little creatures even just for a short period of time.

Saying good bye has always been one of the hardest things for me. Before our closing ceremony, we went to SMA Lab school to bid farewell to our students. As I was delivering my message to them, I can't help but to cry in front of them. I tried to control my emotions but I can't. They're just like my kids. It was just a short experience with them but the memories will surely last forever. The moments that we've shared will never be forgotten.

Terima Kasih, mga padangat kong estudyante! Aku cinta kalian...

The closing ceremony was one of the most profound and emotional moments in my whole stay in Aceh. As I was delivering my words of gratitude and farewell speech, tears were literally running down through my face. I can't stress enough how blessed I am to have met a lot of amazing people in my whole journey in Banda Aceh. My 1-month stay there molded me into the person that I've always wanted to be. So I promised  myself that this isn't the end of my journey in Aceh. This is actually just the beginning. Because I will always come back to the place where I truly felt loved and wanted. Til we meet again, my beloved Aceh!

During our last night in Aceh, we literally made the most out of it as we stayed up all night.

First, we went to the Grand Mosque to witness the beauty and greatness of the architectural design of the mosque for the last time.

After spending some time at the Grand mosque, we had dinner with Kak Nurul and Bang Alul. We spent our precious time together laughing and talking about random things.

We went to one of our favorite coffee shops to meet some of our students and have some chit chats since they knew that we will be leaving already.

And for the last time, our one of our best buds, Bang Alul, accompanied us. We drove around the city and random places in Banda Aceh as we reminisce our whole journey as a SEAMEO teacher, from day 1 until our last day.
