FIRST WEEK (sept. 5 - 11, 2019)

THE ROOTS

The Universitas Syiah Kuala gave us a warm welcome. We were fetched by our two buddies, Kak Nurul and Abang Anthony from the Sultan Iskandar International Airport. We went to a local Acehnese resto straight from the airport, where Dr. Muhammad Hasan awaits us. A lot of Acehnese local foods have been served to us during our lunch with Dr. Hasan and with our two buddies.

NASI UDUK NIGHT

During our first dinner in Banda Aceh, Kak Nurul and Abang Anthony took us to one of the best local resto in Aceh which serves the best Nasi Uduk. We were very excited during that time as it was our first time to taste such kind of food.

FAMILIARIZATION OF DARUSSALAM & first time wearing a hijab

During our second day in Aceh, we went out to familiarize several places in Darussalam and took a walk to observe the people and get to know some of their culture and traditions.

Also, on that same day, it was my first time wearing a hijab so everything feels new to me. It was just like I am also a local from Aceh. The whole time we were roaming around Darussalam, I was wearing a hijab and it actually feels so good.

MEETING THE HEADMASTER, supervisors, and faculty

It was on a Saturday when we finally met the Headmaster of the SMA Laboratorium UNSYIAH, the school where we have been assigned to. We have been introduced as well to our Supervisors and some of the faculty members in the said school. I remember during that time, I was so anxious and tensed because it was our first time meeting them. But still, it went really well.  The introduction was followed by an Orientation. There, we have been told about the rules and regulations of the school and as well as the DO'S and DON'Ts.

experiencing the beauty of lampuuk

After meeting the people we're going to work with at SMA Lab school, Kak Nurul invited us to go to the beach with some of her friends (Linda, Chessy, Yen). We went to one of the famous beaches in Aceh which is the Lampuuk Beach.

I fell in love with the place the first time I saw it. It was a jaw-dropping white-sand beach with lots of pine trees around it and with a clear water. Not to mention that the foods there are very "mangat". Indeed two thumbs up for our Lampuuk trip!

first teaching experience in sma

It was our second day, and absolutely our first teaching experience in SMA Lab School. The topic that has been assigned to me is "Biodiveristy". I have been assigned to teach Grade X IPA1 and I can really say that the students are very active and attentive from the beginning of my discussion up until the end. I am very lucky to have met such amazing kids like them.

It was my first time to ride a Becak and it reminded me of one of the means of transportation in the Philippines which is the so-called tricycle. It was a very fun experience although I had quite a hard time since the driver can't speak in English.

Our first day in SMA Lab School has got to be one of the most thrilling moment in my life because I have no idea what would be the impression of the students about their new teacher . I was too anxious whether what would be their reaction.

After having conducted the flag ceremony, Mr. Nasir requested us to introduce ourselves in front of all the students, faculty, and staff. To my surprise, the students were cheering and were very eager to welcome us. Seeing the excitement drawn on the faces of the students instantly changed my mood and made me want to get to know them more.

It was also on our first day that we conducted our first observation in Ms. Kemalahayati's class.
