SECOND WEEK (sept. 12- 18, 2019)

embracing aceh's history and culture

Our buddies took us on a tour during the second week. He took us on the Tsunami Museum together with his two friends, Abang Alul and Sarah.

This place is a Museum dedicated for the Tsunami that happened in 26 Dec 2014. A lot of wreckage were kept from the disaster and displayed at the museum.

Me, personally, I've learned a lot about tsunami and how it occurred in Aceh from because of the Tsunami Museum. The video shown at the theater hall made me very emotional since it merely depicts the disruptive result of this natural calamity.

pldt Apung 1

PLTD Apung 1 is a power-generating barge that was docked in Banda Aceh’s Ulee Lheue port when the disaster struck.  It was lifted by the tsunami and deposited several kilometers inland, smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

The rest of the site has become a memorial. There’s a monument for the victims, attractive grounds, and ramps running along tsunami-damaged houses. You can climb up the ship, which gives you a great view of the city. When we went there, a lot of  people were exploring the decks and taking pictures. The whole area  is also  enclosed by a fence, complete with a parking lot.

annual internationAL CONFERENCE ON MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

We have been invited to the First Annual International Conference on Mathematics, Science and Technology Education held at Syiah Kuala University. The first day was a tough one but it was very productive. We've learned a lot of things from the various International speakers.

On that same day, we also met the Vice Rector of UNSYIAH and some of the higher officials. We have been invited to join the VIPs during lunch time and it was a great opportunity for us to have chit chats with the International speakers and the higher officials. We get to ask a lot of questions about numerous subject matters.

Day 1

Day 2

gala dinner

The first day of the International conference was followed by a Gala Dinner. It was held at Kyriad Hotel, one of the famous hotels in Banda Aceh.

During the dinner, I also performed 2 songs (1 tagalog song, and 1 english song) as requested by the Dean of FKIP and some of our supervisors.

What a great night to loosen up a bit!

In the Day 2 of the Annual International Conference, parallel sessions were conducted in their designated classrooms. The closing ceremony was followed by the lunch break. This conference is such a big opportunity for us as the topics that have been discussed are really in line to our chosen field.
